Whether you have one screenshot or fifty scanned pages saved as PNG, you can turn them into one tidy PDF. Here are the quickest methods and the settings that matter.
Short answer: use a converter that lets you choose the page size, layout and compression, or use the built-in print-to-PDF and Create PDF options on your computer when you only need something quick.
Method 1: Convert with iTrustPDF (most control)
Add your PNG files
Open PNG to PDF and drop in your images (up to 50MB each, multiple files supported). Switch between Grid View and Advanced Preview to check each page.
Choose the page setup
Set Page Size (A4, Letter, A5, Legal or Tabloid), Orientation (portrait, landscape or auto-detect) and Page Layout: one image per page, 2 or 4 per page, or a contact sheet grid.
Pick scaling, margins and compression
Image Scaling can fit the image to the page, fill the page, keep the original size or use a custom scale. Add Margins, and choose Image Compression from none (best quality) to high (smallest file).
Finish and download
Optionally add a PDF Title, page numbers and centring, click Convert to PDF, then download. Everything runs in your browser, so your images are not uploaded.
Method 2: Windows built-in
Select your images in File Explorer, right-click and choose Print, then pick Microsoft Print to PDF as the printer. Choose the paper size and layout in the print dialog and save the PDF. This is quick but gives fewer options than a converter.
Method 3: Mac built-in
Select the images in Finder, right-click, and choose Quick Actions → Create PDF. You can also open the images in Preview, show the thumbnails, and use File → Print → Save as PDF.
Settings that make a better PDF
| Setting | What to choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Page size | A4 or Letter for documents, original size for screenshots | Keeps pages printable or exactly as captured |
| Scaling | Fit to page | Prevents cropping and keeps proportions |
| Compression | Medium for sharing, none for archiving | PNG is lossless and large; compression shrinks the PDF |
| Order | Check the page order in the preview | The PDF follows the order of the images |
Transparent PNGs
PNG files can contain transparent areas. In a PDF, transparent areas normally show the page background, which is usually white. If you need a coloured background, add it to the image before converting.
Common problems
- The PDF is huge: PNG images are lossless. Use medium or high compression, or reduce image dimensions with an image resizer first.
- Pages come out in the wrong order: sort the file names before adding them (for example 01, 02, 03) and check the preview.
- Text is blurry: screenshots scaled up lose sharpness. Use the original size or a larger source image.
Quick answers
Can I put several PNGs on one page?
Yes. The converter can place 1, 2 or 4 images per page, or build a contact sheet.
Will the PDF text be searchable?
No. The PDF contains pictures. To make scanned text searchable, use PDF OCR.
Is there a limit?
Each PNG can be up to 50MB. Very large batches depend on your device memory.
