How to crop a PDF

  • Upload: Drop your PDF into the box above or click to choose it.
  • Choose the area to keep: Drag the crop box over the page preview, or type the percentages to remove from the top, bottom, left and right.
  • Pick the pages: Apply the crop to all pages, or only to the page you are viewing. Use the arrows to check other pages.
  • Crop and download: Click Crop PDF, then download the new file.

How does cropping a PDF work?

This tool changes the visible page area of each page (the page's crop box) to the rectangle you chose. The page then opens at the new, smaller size in PDF viewers, and the margins you removed are no longer displayed. Because the margin percentages are applied to each page's own size, they also work on documents whose pages have different sizes or rotations.

Cropping is not redaction

Cropping hides the outside area but does not necessarily delete the text or images there, and some PDF software can still reveal them. If you must permanently remove confidential information, use a proper redaction tool instead of cropping.

Tips for a clean crop

Trim scanned pages evenly to remove black borders, remove large white margins before printing, or cut a single column or figure out of a page. If your PDF is a scan and you also want to search its text, run it through our PDF OCR tool after cropping.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Crop PDF tool free?
Yes. It is free to use, with no registration required.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is opened and cropped in your browser, and the file is not sent to our servers.
How do I crop a PDF to a specific area?
Upload the PDF, drag the crop box over the part of the page you want to keep (or type the margins to remove), then click Crop PDF and download the result.
Can I crop only one page?
Yes. Use the page arrows to show the page, set the crop, and choose "Only the page shown above" under Apply to.
Does cropping permanently delete the content outside the box?
No. Cropping changes the visible page area, but the original content may still exist in the file. Use a redaction tool if you need to remove sensitive information permanently.
Does cropping change the quality of my PDF?
No. The text and images are not re-rendered or re-compressed; only the visible page area is changed.
Can I crop a password-protected PDF?
Not directly. Remove the password protection first, then crop the file.
What is the maximum file size?
The tool accepts PDFs up to 100MB. Very large files may be slow on phones and older devices because everything runs in your browser.
